open mouth??

Has anyone made a hinged open mouth? I'm wondering how to do an adjustable mouth that will close tightly.
So far, I've come close, using a wired lower jaw, but there must be a more reliable/controlable method of maintaining the lower jaw shape, while having the mouth adjustable.
Any help appreciated.
